Submission Policies and Information

The following expectations and requirements apply to all CIKM 2026 tracks. Please read these requirements carefully, and ensure that you are familiar with the relevant ACM Policies. Breaches of these expectations and violations of ACM policies may result in submissions being desk rejected, or, where appropriate, alternative disciplinary actions being pursued.

CIKM 2026 In-Person Attendance Policy

CIKM 2026 is an in-person conference. We believe that an in-person conference is beneficial in terms of direct engagement and networking opportunities, as well as supporting a more dynamic exchange of research ideas and creating a welcoming and nurturing environment for newcomers. All accepted papers (across all tracks) to the main conference and workshops are expected to be presented in-person. It is a requirement that at least one author from each accepted paper will attend the conference in person to deliver the paper and address audience questions during the Q&A session. No pre-recorded videos will be permitted.

CIKM 2026 Author Registration Requirement Policy

At least one author of each accepted paper must register for CIKM 2026 by the Author Registration Deadline, and will be required to list the papers they will be presenting as part of the registration process. Multiple papers may be associated with a single such registration. Papers for which no author has registered by the Author Registration Deadline risk being removed from the conference proceedings. (Authors who plan to register prior to the notification deadline in order to commence the visa application process should list all of their submitted papers.)

ACM Author Page Charges

Starting January 1, 2026, ACM moved to Open Access. All ACM publications, including those from ACM-sponsored conferences, will be 100% Open Access. Authors will have two primary options for publishing Open Access articles with ACM: the ACM Open institutional model or by paying Article Processing Charges (APCs). With over 1,800 institutions already part of ACM Open, the majority of ACM-sponsored conference papers will not require APCs from authors or conferences (currently, around 70-75%).

Authors from institutions not participating in ACM Open will need to pay an APC to publish their papers, unless they qualify for a financial or discretionary waiver. To find out whether an APC applies to your article, please consult the list of participating institutions in ACM Open and review the APC Waivers and Discounts Policy. Keep in mind that waivers are rare and are granted based on specific criteria set by ACM.

Understanding that this change could present financial challenges, ACM has approved a temporary subsidy for 2026 to ease the transition and allow more time for institutions to join ACM Open. The subsidy will offer:

  • $USD250 APC for ACM/SIG members
  • $USD350 for non-members

This represents a 65% discount, funded directly by ACM. Authors are encouraged to help advocate for their institutions to join ACM Open during this transition period.

This temporary subsidized pricing will apply to all conferences scheduled for 2026. Please refer to the dedicated page for more details.

CIKM 2026 Double Submission and Pre-Print/ArXiv Policy

Papers submitted to any track of CIKM 2026 must describe original work that has not been previously published, not accepted for publication elsewhere, and not simultaneously submitted or currently under review in another journal or conference (including a different track of CIKM 2026).

As it concerns tracks adopting double-bind reviewing processes (i.e., Full Research and Short Papers Tracks), non-anonymized versions of your paper to online archival platforms, you are allowed to post them at any point before or after the submission of the paper to CIKM  2026. However, posting a non-anonymized version of your paper to an online archival platform (e.g. arXiv, your organisation pre-print server, your website) is not compulsory, and it is not necessarily encouraged. Moreover, you will have to ensure that the specifications outlined below are satisfied.

  • If your submission has posted a non-anonymized version online, on the author submission form in Easychair, you must inform the PC chairs that a non-anonymized version exists, or you plan to make one available before CIKM 2026 acceptance notifications. Not disclosing a non-anonymized version exists could cause your paper to be desk-rejected.
  • The title and abstract of the non-anonymized version of your paper in the archival platform should be sufficiently distinct from your CIKM 2026 submission: failure to do so will cause your paper to be desk rejected. In particular, we recommend that you:
    • Set on your final title before submission to CIKM 2026. Then, use the final title for your archival submission.
    • Submit the paper to CIKM 2026 with an alternative title, which you could modify after the paper is accepted by CIKM 2026.
    • Take the same approach for the abstract of your paper, noting that the abstract might likely change also because of reviewers’ feedback.
    • These differences between the title/abstract of your archival and those of the CIKM 2026 submission will provide a first level of dissuasion for re-identification during the peer review process.
  • If any dispute happens, the relevant track chairs reserve the full rights of explanation and to make the final accept/reject decision.

PC chairs will ask reviewers (1) not to look for the paper on archival platforms, and (2) to disclose whether they become aware of an archival version of the paper they are reviewing and whether they have a COI due to this. PC chairs will monitor online paper archives and check if a submission has properly disclosed its non-anonymized version on an archive. Moreover they will actively monitor reviews for indications that the presence of a paper in an archival platform has unfairly influenced the accept/reject recommendation, and act upon this. If any dispute happens, the PC chairs reserve the full rights of explanation and to make the final accept/reject decision.

Authorship Policy

Authors should carefully read the ACM’s authorship policy before submitting a paper, and are expected to comply with all elements of that policy. To ensure the integrity of the review process, changes to authorship after the corresponding abstract submission deadline, or in connection with final camera-ready versions of accepted papers, will not be permitted.

ACM Policy on Use of AI by Authors

All submissions must comply with the ACM Policy on the use of AI. Moreover, they are all required to include a “GenAI Usage Disclosure” section at the end of the limited pages of main contents and appendix, right before the references. In this section, authors are required to provide full disclosure of all use of GenAI tools in all stages of the research (including the code and data) and the writing. This section, together will not be counted toward the page limit.

Accessibility

Authors are strongly encouraged to provide “alt text” (alternative text) for floats (images, tables, etc.) in their content so that readers with disabilities can be given descriptive information for these floats that are important to the work. The descriptive text will be displayed in place of a float if the float cannot be loaded. This benefits both the author and broadens the reader base for their work. Moreover, the alt text provides in-depth descriptions of the floats to search engine crawlers, which helps to index these floats properly.

Additionally, authors should follow the ACM Accessibility Recommendations for Publishing in Color and SIG ACCESS guidelines on describing figures.

Publication Date

The official publication date is when the proceedings are made available in the ACM Digital Library. This date may be up to two weeks before the first day of the conference. The official publication date may affect the deadline for any patent filings related to published work.

CIKM 2026 Policy on Reviewing Including Use of AI by Reviewers

CIKM 2026 follows the ACM Peer Review Policy, and requires that referees not use AI systems to create their reviews. All reviews remain the responsibility of the PC member to which they were assigned, including the full final text submitted as a review.
